Melissa Hood, B.T.R, CTRS
Recreation Therapist / Executive Director
Melissa graduated from Lethbridge College in 2019 with a Diploma in Recreation Therapy – Gerontology and went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Lethbridge. She has been practicing in the field of recreation therapy since 2019, first as a therapy assistant and, since 2022, as a Recreation Therapist. Melissa also holds the credential of Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), the highest national standard in the profession.
Her career began in Hinton, Alberta, with Alberta Health Services, where she gained invaluable experience in healthcare. She has worked across diverse settings, including private care, long-term care, assisted living, and adult day programs. She relocated to Kamloops B.C. to be nearer her family and has continued her work with seniors. Across all environments, Melissa has witnessed recurring challenges such as social isolation, decline due to lack of engagement and stimulation, and the heavy toll of caregiver burnout.
As a Recreation Therapist, Melissa is committed to demonstrating how purposeful recreation transforms lives—restoring confidence, sparking joy, and building skills and abilities. Known for her compassion and empathy, she prides herself on creating meaningful bonds with those she serves. With her strength-based approach, adaptive strategies, and problem-solving skills, she helps individuals overcome barriers to participation so they can fully engage and thrive.
For Melissa, recreation is not simply about activities—it is about fostering dignity, purpose, and connection at every stage of life.
